Reprint of the original from 1551. "A New Herball" published in the sixteenth century, holds the distinction of being the first English herbal to achieve scientific recognition. It marked a significant milestone in the fields of botany and herbalism with its precise observations and thorough scientific approach. Now, for the first time since its original release, the entire Herball is available in our modern edition that faithfully reproduces the exquisite sixteenth-century text and illustrations. This edition is made with the patronage of Magia Ziemi - a modern witch, alchemist and herbalist, who works extensively with the magic of herbs and wild flowers. Her deep pasion about herbal medicine and her commitment to traditional practices has brought new life to this astonishing work.
"As a modern witch and a patron of this herbarium I stand in awe of the knowledge preserved within these pages. For in them, I find not only the roots of my craft, but also the branches that reach the new era of herbal witches" - Magia Ziemi William Turner (1508- July 1568) was an English naturalist, botanist, and theologian known as the “father of English botany.” His A New Herball was the first English herbal to include original material. Turner’s best-known work, A New Herball (in three parts; 1551–68), demonstrated his medical bias. He chose to write in English, the vernacular language, so that practical botanical and medical knowledge would be widely available to medical practitioners and apothecaries. Turner’s works were used extensively by later botanists such as John Ray and Jean Bauhin.
